The main advantages of a storage battery

The storage battery is used to store the electricity generated by your solar photovoltaic panels that you don't use directly, for later use.

Solar panels produce electricity when the sun shines, but it's not always possible to use this electricity in real time. Electricity production can also vary according to weather conditions and the season.

A battery can therefore store the excess electricity generated during sunny periods for use when the sun is not shining, such as at night or on cloudy days.

Les principaux avantages d'une batterie de stockage avec votre installation photovoltaïque

1. Storage of excess energy

Solar panels produce most of their energy during the day, when we're not at home

The electricity produced by the solar photovoltaic panels that is not consumed directly is then stored in the battery for later use when you need it.

This will considerably reduce the amount of electricity drawn from the grid, or even cancel it out if the battery capacity is sufficient for your needs.

2. Reduced dependence on the electricity grid

A photovoltaic installation with battery storage reduces the amount of electricity you take from the grid, and therefore your dependence on it, which is beneficial for people who want to adopt a more self-sufficient approach to energy.

By storing your surplus electricity production, you also reduce the amount of electricity you need to feed back into the grid, which can help to stabilise it and reduce costly investment in maintaining the electricity infrastructure.

3. Supply of electricity in the event of a power cut

Storage batteries can also be used as a source of back-up power in the event of a power cut (battery + back-up system).

This ensures a supply of electricity to your lighting and some of your electrical devices for a few hours in the event of a power cut.

4. Increase your self-consumption rate

Solar panels often produce intermittent energy that does not always coincide with your household's consumption periods.

By storing your electricity production in a battery, you increase the proportion of electricity consumed that comes directly from your solar panels rather than from the grid. You therefore consume more of your own electricity, significantly increasing your self-consumption rate. Without a battery, a household consumes an average of 37% of its solar output.

Thanks to the domestic battery, you'll find it easier to consume your surplus production rather than letting it go back to the grid, and your self-consumption rate could even be close to 75%.

To sum up, a storage battery, combined with a photovoltaic installation, makes it possible to optimise the use of the electricity produced by your solar panels. It stores surplus production from your solar panels, increases your self-consumption rate and provides emergency power via a back-up system in the event of a power cut. In short, it contributes to greater energy autonomy.
